A 23-year-old Mudgee man will face court charged with driving in a dangerous manner after his vehicle hit a power pole on the corner of Market and Douro Streets on Wednesday night.
Power in the CBD was lost temporarily on impact.
Regional general manager for Country Energy, Peter Halliwell said when the vehicle collided with the pole, the impact was intense enough for the high voltage wires to clash, hence causing the interruption to services.
“Once the wires separated, power was restored.
“Country Energy in Dubbo detected the incident electronically and immediately dispatched a local unit to the scene,” he said.
Mudgee police were called to investigate the incident.
Duty officer, Mick Wurth said a 23-year-old man driving a Hilux Ute collided with a sedan driven by an elderly couple around 5.45pm.
“Both vehicles were travelling in an easterly direction on Market Street.
“The sedan indicated a right turn into Douro Street and as he was overtaking on the inside, the 23 year-old clipped the rear of the car.
“This caused him to lose control, slamming into the power pole and finally coming to rest on an air conditioning unit in a building on the corner.
“There were no injuries.
“The case will be heard in Mudgee Local Court and if convicted, the man could receive a penalty of 12 months’ loss of licence,” officer Wurth said.
