Education week is on

Schools around the region will celebrate Education Week this week with a variety of attractions and events.

Mudgee Public School will have an open day on Thursday, from 10am to 11am, with parents invited into their childrens’ classrooms.

“In the open classrooms, children will go and see their brothers and sisters as well,” deputy principal Roz Rogers said.

Ms Rogers said the school is always open any day for parents to come and see their children at work.

A morning tea will follow the open classrooms, with staff providing goodies for parents and children, after which there will be a concert, the children in the band playing, the choir singing and various other performances.

Ms Rogers said parents will also see older students reading to younger students, as usually happens at the school, which encourages the older readers to learn to put expression into their loud reading and helps the little ones to learn to read.

Relieving principal Andrea Lester of Cudgegong Valley Public School said every week at CVS is education week, however, for a special treat for parents and children the school will be inviting parents to come on Thursday morning, 9.30am to 11.20am to see the 12 fundamentals: a physical fitness program.

“We are very big on physical fitness,” she said.

Parents are also invited to stay on and have recess with their children.

Rylstone Public School will have a book fair on Wednesday for their Education Week, giving the children a chance to buy some good books.

A midday concert will follow the book fair, with visits to classrooms after that and a picnic lunch for parents and children.

Rylstone’s day will end with its annual softball match, Year 6 versus parents.

Gulgong High School will have open day Thursday morning 9 to 11am with various displays and activities, then morning tea for parents at recess.

Gulgong Public School will have open day on Tuesday, 10.30 to 11am in the classrooms, then a morning tea with parents and students, then a creative arts expo where parents can join their children to make paintings, sculptures, tile dying, wire sculptures and other creations.
