The Mudgee junior hockey season will end in two weeks’ time and last Saturday players in all age divisions worked to sharpen their skills for their end of season displays in front of family and friends.
The minis have been outstanding all year and even players as young as three have shown concentration and enthusiasm for the sport.
This group’s coaches (Jaci, Anna and Claire) have done a remarkable job and last Saturday their efforts were rewarded when the youngsters played a very even game.
Best players on the day were Joshua Karbowiak and Thomas Karbowiak.
B Grade players have shown noticable improvement in their passing and team play this season and are now starting to show that improvement in tackling and avoiding play off the body.
Christian Dayrit, Olivia Harvey, Cassandra Hinchliffe and Annabelle Lynch all had good games last Saturday.
A Graders focussed on dribbling and hitting last Saturday. Hitting the ball consistently is a skill that juniors need to develop and is one they should work on in their spare time.
Best players on the day were Edward Abbott, Hannah Yeo and Madeline Blackman.
Teenagers played a close game with Green scoring two late goals to win the game.
Mitchell Stait has mastered the sport quickly and looks like a player of the future and one that coaches hope will be back next year while Erin Kenny scored a brilliant goal into the top of the net to make her mark on the game. Tavis Young played well for Green while Rachel Johnson, Liam Jeffrey, Brian Toohey and Vanessa Johnson took a few good balls into the circle while Troy Kenny controlled the ball well for Red in a game where the overall teamwork was a highlight.
